Pago de los Capellanes was founded in 1996 in Pedrosa de Duero, in the province of Burgos, as the first winemaking venture of the Rodero Villa family. The estate has since earned international recognition and was recently named among the 100 Top Wineries in the World by Wine & Spirits.
The winery is located in a particularly privileged area of Ribera del Duero, distinguished by its climate and soils. A significant day–night temperature variation of more than 20°C plays a key role in the ripening process, enhancing alcohol potential, color and tannin development, while preserving a remarkable natural acidity that gives the wines balance and longevity.
From the outset, the family’s ambition has been to express the landscape through wine—crafting bottles that are handcrafted, complex and built to age, yet always conceived for pleasure and enjoyment. Vineyard, family, tradition and aspiration form the core themes of the estate’s identity, guiding both viticulture and winemaking decisions.
Their philosophy is grounded in a deep respect for land and tradition, with vineyard work based on a principle of micro-parcelling, adapted to soil composition and site-specific characteristics. The soils—primarily composed of clay, gravel and sand—provide natural drainage, moisture retention and thermal regulation, resulting in wines of velvety texture, strong structure and a marked mineral expression.
In 2010, I had the privilege of being invited to redesign the winery’s web presence, developing a new website that translated the estate’s values and philosophy into a clear and contemporary digital experience. This project laid the foundation for the winery’s current online presence, establishing a structure and narrative approach that continues to inform its digital communication today.
Pago de los Capellanes stands as a contemporary expression of Ribera del Duero, where technical rigor, family heritage and long-term vision converge to produce wines of character, depth and enduring quality.
