Maya Yoga Studio is a well-established yoga studio based on Maui, known for its strong community, experienced teachers and a practice rooted in clarity, alignment and mindful movement. Over the years, the studio built a loyal local following while developing a teaching methodology that naturally lent itself to a broader audience beyond the island.
In 2014, I was commissioned to unify two complementary initiatives under a single brand and digital ecosystem: the physical Maya Yoga Studio and Maya Yoga Online. The ambition was to extend the studio’s teachings to an off-island audience through the creation of a subscription-based online platform, while preserving the integrity, tone and pedagogical quality of the in-studio experience.
The project required a comprehensive redefinition of the brand and visual identity, ensuring consistency across physical and digital touchpoints. In parallel, I led the UX design and content architecture, structuring a complex body of video content into a clear, intuitive system. The platform hosted hundreds of hours of yoga classes, organized by skill level, class length and thematic focus, allowing users to easily navigate and personalize their practice.
Beyond content delivery, the digital ecosystem integrated studio management and promotion tools, e-commerce functionality, and social media connections, creating a unified framework capable of supporting both community engagement and business operations. The design approach emphasized calm, clarity and usability, ensuring that technology remained in service of the practice rather than a distraction from it.
After six months of design and development, the platform was successfully launched and quickly gained traction, receiving positive feedback and growing its subscriber base over the following eighteen months. Although the partnership later evolved and the project transitioned to a different operational model, the core branding, visual identity and structural principles developed during this phase continued to inform subsequent versions of the platform.
