Cucli

Documentary Short film

Cucli is an award-winning short documentary by Xavier Marrades that tells an intimate story of love, companionship and transformation in the aftermath of loss.

The film follows Ramon, a truck driver who, since the death of his wife, lives with his parents and spends most of his time alone on the road. His days are marked by routine and solitude until an unexpected encounter changes everything: Cucli, a white dove. What begins as a simple presence gradually becomes a profound bond, offering Ramon a new form of connection and meaning.

Through subtle observation and restraint, Cucli explores how memory, grief and the supernatural can quietly enter everyday life. From the simplicity of Ramon’s shared daily life with Cucli, the film reveals a slow and deeply human process of inner healing and personal transformation, where the extraordinary emerges from ordinary gestures.

I was invited by the artist to develop the poster and graphic design for Cucli, created to accompany the film’s presentation across international film festivals. The visual approach was conceived to echo the film’s tone—minimal, sensitive and poetic—allowing space for silence, emotion and ambiguity, while supporting the film’s visibility within a competitive festival context.

Cucli stands as a quiet yet powerful meditation on resilience and the persistence of love beyond loss, where design serves to extend the film’s emotional language beyond the screen.
